 THURSDAY 5 MAY 2016

On Thursday 5 May 2016 an election will be held to elect a Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) who will be accountable for how crime is tackled across the Kent Police Force area.

What is a Police and Crime Commissioner? The job of the Police and Crime Commissioner is to ensure the policing needs of their communities are met as effectively as possible, bringing communities closer to the police and building confidence in the policing system. This is an important role. The role of the Commissioner includes:

•    setting the strategic direction and aims for Kent Police through the Police and Crime Plan;
•    ensuring that priorities are suitably funded by setting a budget and the local precept;
•    providing the local link between the police and communities, working to turn the desires and ambitions of the public, in terms of policing and crime reduction, into action;
•    holding to account the Chief Constable for the delivery and performance of the force.
