CONCERNS FOR OUR LOCAL GREEN BELT 10th June 2018 From Cobham Parish Council
Dear Cobham & Sole Street Residents
All Gravesham Borough residents should have received a Local Plan Review Questionnaire delivered to your door back in April. If you haven’t received one or no longer have it don’t worry, you can complete the questionnaire online. Every resident is entitled to complete one, this is not restricted to one per property. The link to the online questionnaire from Gravesham Borough Council (GBC) is below. Paper copies are also available from The Civic Centre. DEADLINE IS 5PM ON 11TH JULY.
It is vital we all share our views, as GBC are currently tasked with a plan to build 8,000 properties in the Borough between now and 2028. The agreed figure in 2014 was approx. 6,000 and this can be accommodated without any major infringements on our Green Belt areas.
This new increase from Central Government now means we will have to find space for an additional 2,000 properties in the Green Belt if we accept this. This equates to an average of 10,000 individual car journeys per day for 2,000 dwellings.
This new predicted figure needs us to challenge this and help to protect the Urban sprawl by the destruction of Green Belt in our Borough. Analysis of statistics from 2001 to 2016 on real migration into and out of the Borough shows that 6,000 is a realistic figure. The proposed options in the GBC document includes possible merging of Sole Street and Meopham, expansion of Cobham & Sole Street or creation of a new freestanding settlement of 5,000 to 7,000 dwellings. To see further details related to the possible areas impacting Cobham and Sole Street see Pages 12- 20 in the Local Plan Review PDF on the GBC website or your paper copy.
There are 15 questions to complete, see the guide on the reverse of this sheet to help with your answers if you are in favour of protection of our Green Belt. This letter and consultation guide can also be found on either the Cobham Parish Council (CPC) website or our FaceBook page. Thanks to Bob Lane and Gravesham Rural Residents Group for their help and support with this.
DON'T FORGET TO COMPLETE THE CONSULTATION. DEADLINE IS 5PM ON 11TH JULY.
